Gacheon Village also known as Daraengi Village is located on the island's southwestern side of Namhea Island part of Gyeongsangnam - do. This place is indeed small but extremely beautiful village. And it offers many sight seeings such us the beauty of it's famous terraced rice paddies on a steep hill on the outskirts of 488 meter high stunning Seolheulsan Mountain. Also the village consists of colorful traditional roofs. The overall look of the village is superb. A walk down to the village will lead explorers to a discovery of the combination of beautiful sea and cliff.
This definitely was a surprise to us and a bonus of the day during our day 1 exploration, and became the 7th destination in continuation of our 4 days adventure around Gyeonsangnam - do. We thought, we were done and it was time to look for the Hilton Resort which we've planned to stay for the night when we were passing through this beautiful village.
We all agreed that there is no way we were just gonna passed by, so we've decided to have some picture taking of the beautiful painted roofs. We instantly fell in love with this traditional and lovely village so we stayed a bit more.
It was indeed a stunning place and how I wish I am a professional photographer, because I must admit my photos do not justify the real beauty of this village. The traditional and artistic roofs are just so welcoming. I am not certain about the other seasons, and hopefully we didn't just came on it's best mood. Because the weather was so perfect, and the rice paddies were getting ready for the coming harvest season.
We've noticed a nice coffee shop on a perfect location so we've decided to have a refreshment break instead, and enjoyed the scenery. Every angle we looked around was just something I would describe a Korea gem beautiful.
You surely won't ignore the stunning rocks waving on the peak of the Seolheulsan mountain. I would really love to get there someday.
The stunning ocean view, My oh! my! The best part of stopping on this coffee shop was the wifi was strong so we were able to do live video to our family and friends. I was also able to back up my photos on google from our previous adventure since I was running out of space. And thanks God! We did it! Because I was running out of memory space.
The field of Gacheon Village on the sightseeing road of southern coast beauty wasn't really in a full view from the coffee shop. It was the first view that made us stay longer. There was also a narrow and long stairs type rice paddy cultivated from a steep mountain slope, which faces the blue sea.
While at the coffee shop I've decided to asked the nice lady barista probably the owner of the cafe if she could recommend us a nice guesthouse besides somewhere near since we couldn't go through Hilton resort on the phone. The lady was so kind and showed us some choices from the site on her phone. After picking our choice she made a call to that place and gave us direction and phone number. This is a good tip for travelers the restaurant and coffee shop owners are mostly connected to each other so if you are in same situation with us, The best place to ask is such as this.
Since we were set with our accommodation, we've decided to continue the adventure. We drove down the slope to see the stunning beauty of the bottom of the village before our eyes.
We parked somewhere beside the road and grandma was already tired and the adventure challenge requires a bit physical. Therefore, she can still enjoy the scenery from distance. I haven't noticed any designated parking lot but travelers can park on the side of the road so try to avoid weekends or be here early during festivals if you are planning to come here, because I can already predict a chaos during busy days on parking situations.
A pavilion was noticeably built on the village where it is a great place to rest and find comfort when visitors get tired. I noticed a lot of it scattered and perfect for a picnic if someone wants to stay more and enjoy the scenery.
There is a nice cozy seafood restaurant around, a couple actually.
We kind of went around the village and I noticed the houses from the lower part were quiet modern compare to the upper part of the village which is interesting, perhaps they required a stronger concrete built for the strong winds coming from the sea since safety is always number one in Korea.
I guess this represents the hardworking villagers and their best friend cow a necessity for plowing the rice field. In fact, there is a festival held yearly here on spring that allows visitors to experience the local everyday living lifestyles and such as planting rice and other programs related with the local's livelihood.
My father in law wanted our beauties added on the spectacular view so he asked for our poses and we ruined it! LOL!

The water was interestingly calm and there were still quiet decent amount of visitors coming and going considering it was weekdays. It just means this is really a popular place and was really a great place to end the adventure for the day.
